Motto B. Brecht from Stories of Mr. K.

The name Stúdió K refers to constant change and the urge to change things: continuous learning, creativity, experimentation within a community, building connections, relentlessly seeking out unusual conflicts, and an inquisitive, research-driven critical workshop.

The great generation of Stúdió K, active for 55 years, has taken its productions around the world. Its work is now part of theatre education, and many of its artists have created significant bodies of work as well as theatres and schools of their own. Several actors from the second and third generations have also become defining figures of contemporary culture.

The company has operated in Ferencváros as a professional foundation theatre since 1995. In 2006 it built its new theatre in the middle of Ráday Street, where, alongside contemporary Hungarian authors, it presents adaptations of works by Shakespeare, Mrożek, G. B. Shaw and Schnitzler shaped for its own time and ensemble.

It regularly hosts other ensembles and experiments with new genres and creative methods through its workshop practice. It also organises open seminars and series devoted to poetic oeuvres. Of its 160–170 performances each year, more than half are programmes for children.
